Bone Grafting

Bone defects around teeth cause deep pockets which, if left untreated, will lead to tooth loss.

After cleaning the bone defect, Dr. Cueva will fill the defect with bone graft material to regenerate lost bone.

Regenerated bone will lead to normal bone anatomy allowing for healthy teeth. These images were provided by Consult-PRO's patient education program.

Traditionally, eliminating the gum pockets by trimming away the infected gum tissue and by re-contouring the uneven bone tissue treats gum disease. Although this is still an effective way of treating gum disease, new and more sophisticated procedures are used routinely today.

Guided Tissue Bone Regeneration "regenerates" the previously lost gum and bone tissue. Some  techniques utilize membranes in combination with bone graft materials.  Most of these membranes are bio-absorbable and some require removal. Other regenerative procedures involve the use of bioactive gels. Emdogain® is a biology-based product, which promotes the predictable re-growth of bone and soft tissues lost due to periodontal disease. Emdogain is convenient and effective to use in difficult-to-treat areas.
