We want your dental appointment to be a comfortable, positive experience. The first step is to make sure you are relaxed and comfortable.
From the relaxing surroundings in our reception area to the soothing environment we have created in our treatment rooms, no detail is too small where your comfort is concerned. Our caring, professional staff is committed to creating a pleasant atmosphere for you.
Dr. Cueva has extensive training in various types of sedation. Together you will be able to determine what kind of sedation will be appropriate for you during your treatment.
50% of the U.S. population do not receive dental care.
The most anxious patient may receive intravenous conscious sedation. Other patients just need a little help achieving a relaxed state and nitrous Oxide ("laughing gas") is available when needed to make you more comfortable.
Intravenous (I.V.) conscious sedation is the highest level of sedation our office performs. During I.V. sedation, medications are administered through an I.V. line that allows small doses of various medications be administered to produce a state of relaxation, reduced perception of pain, and drowsiness. However, you will not be put to sleep as with a general anesthetic. In addition, local anesthetics will be administered to numb the areas of your mouth to be operated and thus further control pain. The drugs to be used may include Versed, Nubain, and possibly Phenergan, and Dexametazone. Your vital signs are continuously monitored, while you are sedated, by Dr. Cueva and our staff with our state-of-the-art equipment. After treatment, you may have no memory of the surgical procedure.
Visit our pages for pre-treatment sedation and post-treatment sedation instructions.
Oral sedation is used for minor procedures for very anxious patients. You will take a small pill approximately one hour prior to the procedure at our office. You will need to have a responsible adult to drive you to the office since you will not be able to drive yourself home. Your escort should be familiar enough with you to assist you in the bathroom if needed. You will be escorted by our staff to a comfortable chair and a small electronic sensor will be placed on your fingertip. This sensor allows us to monitor your vital signs during the entire procedure. When you are relaxed comfortably, Dr. Cueva will begin your dental care. When the doctor is finished with your treatment, your escort will drive you home. You probably will not even remember being at our office.
Sedation Dentistry is especially useful for adult patients who:
No, you will be very relaxed, but you will be able to respond to verbal directions. You will probably not remember your visit.
IV Sedation: Yes. Medications are administered through an I.V. line so you can comfortably relax through your procedure. IV sedation has the benefit of allowing the doctor to control the amount of sedation necessary for your particular case.
Oral Sedation: No tubes or needles are necessary for the sedation. You just simply swallow a pill.
Your escort must drive you to our office for your appointment and return you home afterwards. During the actual procedure, your escort is free to stay, or leave and come back to pick you up at the end of the procedure.
Sedation Dentistry is recommended for all different ages. A careful screening will be performed during the consultation phase for any medical conditions that may prevent you from being a candidate.
